Robert had been fabricating long before Red Iron Design was established. His father, since retired, operated Pete’s Welding in Mount Brydges for over 40 years. Rob literally grew up in 'the shop' and developed a solid foundation of the skills from his father who perfected them over a lifetime. This led to Robert’s enrollment and completion of the Industrial Design program at Fanshawe College. In 2008, after spending many years traveling throughout Europe and East Asia, he settled back in Canada and created Red Iron Design with his partner Katie. Over the last 17 years Robert has developed an exceptional skill set enabling him to bring Katie's increasingly detailed designs to life. Our high quality and functional pieces are designed and built to stand the test of time and exhibit his wonderful craftsmanship.
Trained in Interior Design at Fanshawe College, classic design principles, drafting skills and her instinctual design talent has awarded an exclusive element to Red Iron Design's portfolio. She draws a lot of inspiration from nature and can accommodate modern preferences, but the suitability to the building's style, or the property's character is her focus. These architectural design elements should be appreciated and her proficient knowledge of period specific ironwork has led to our involvement in many replication and restoration projects throughout London. Our traditional style 'wrought' iron is also featured on many heritage homes in and around the city. Some neighborhoods have pockets with many projects concentrated within blocks. Our hope is that between the suitability to the districts and Rob's craftsmanship of the pieces, they'll also become part of the history.
